Kit King — Painter
I've had more posts removed than I can count. The interesting and extremely disappointing thing about it is that not a single one of the posts removed actually violated Instagram's terms and agreement. Every post removed was a painting and in some cases paintings that were already censored were still removed.
I've had posts pulled that were announcing exhibitions, and promoting my work. It's frustrating since I gained traction on Instagram and because of Instagram's platform I was able to make a living off my artwork. Unfortunately with having 365,000 followers now, my posts are flagged often with such a large audience, and now my sales and support have sunken as a result of the pulled posts. How are artists like me who rely on social media supposed to gain traction and support and make a living when these very platforms are shutting us down? I'm agoraphobic — I don't leave my house — all I have to promote my art is social media. My paintings are not offensive in nature, yet Instagram removed them claiming they are a danger and need to "keep the community safe." Gallery pages/profiles that have shared my paintings were not only pulled of the post, but had their accounts shut down after posting my artwork.
One hater can effectively destroy an artist's career by flagging their posts when Instagram doesn't have people to properly assess what is being flagged and removed.
All my posts mention in the caption they are paintings and do not violate the terms, but this makes no bit of difference.
